HAMSTRINGS were tweaking and popping as the All-Terrain Challenge got short and sharp at La Mare de Carteret last evening.

With the Footes Lane running track out of action for respraying, the traditional track stage of the challenge moved to the grass for a series of quickfire 100m sprints.

At the top end of the scale, Division One leader David Emery lost 45sec. on Matt Loveridge on an evening where every place was worth 5sec.

While Emery had to settle for second place in the Division One B final, Loveridge donned the spikes and, as many predicted, showed he was the quickest man in the entire field.

In the end it came down to him and Will Bodkin for the title after a devil-takes-the-hindmost competition left them in a head-to-head under the dipping sun on a perfect evening.

Loveridge's victory meant that, having started the stage 16sec. adrift, he will take a decent advantage into this evening's five-mile cliff time trial at Icart.
