Griffins inflict defeat on Cobo

GRIFFINS have once again proved to be a thorn in Cobo's side.

GRIFFINS have once again proved to be a thorn in Cobo's side.

The only team to beat the champions last year, they severely dented their hopes of retaining the title yesterday with a dramatic one-run win at the KGV.

In truth, though, only an outstanding seventh-wicket partnership of 77 between Ollie Newey and TJ Ozanne got a lacklustre Cobo anywhere near to victory against a motivated and buoyant Griffins side for whom Mitchell Le Tissier, David Hooper and Jordon Martel played starring roles.

But with eight balls remaining and 14 runs needed, Newey picked out their best fielder Hooper, who took a brilliant catch running in from long-on to send the batsman back for a well-made 43 and swing things back in Griffins' favour.

The island all-rounder then held his nerve bowling the last over to seal the victory and put unbeaten St Pierre firmly in the driving seat in the title race.
