TOP athletes have been left feeling like Footes Lane’s poor relations after vital track sessions were cancelled, hindering Island Games  qualification hopes.

Wembley dream has not faded completely

The Footes Lane pitch was made playable for Saturday’s FA Vase semi-final thanks to the all-night efforts of Guernsey FC fans, ground staff and a little help from above in the form of a helicopter, which hovered low over the playing surface to blow away surface water. The match result was not quite as good, with the Green Lions losing the first leg against Spennymoor Town 3-1. (Picture by Tom Tardif, 1312805)

IT’S not over until the fat lady sings was the message from Guernsey FC fans who remain hopeful that they can turn around a 3-1 deficit in the second leg of the FA Vase semi-final.

THE two biggest GFC fans in the States are throwing their weight behind attempts to find short- and long-term solutions to the problematical Footes Lane pitch.
