PUPILS and staff were evacuated from Les Beaucamps High School yesterday after a science experiment 'went wrong' inside the new £30m. facility.

Fire crews and paramedics arrived on the scene after a 'dust cloud' of fumes were released into the lab at 11.50am, causing the whole school to be evacuated to safety.

Three female pupils and one firefighter were checked by paramedics as a result of the cloud, which was said to have been caused by an experiment involving copper sulphate.

Fire & Rescue Service station manager Kevin Murphy said: 'They were carrying out an experiment and it didn't go according to plan. A dust cloud came off.'

'They were evacuated as a precaution and the room has been sealed off until it has been cleared.'
