No-one was injured and as the blaze did not take place in the main building, the school is open today.

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service were called at 9.23pm after the caretaker tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the blaze after discovering it during routine maintenance.

Guernsey Electricity staff had to be drafted in to isolate the main power supply to the building before it was safe for fire- fighters to successfully battle and put out the fire.

Duty officer Steve Wilkes said two tenders and nine personnel were sent to the scene and they spent over an hour trying to put out the fire.

Emergency services were also called to a crash at the Route De Carteret, Castel last night.

Ambulance and Rescue received a call at 7.28pm, after a car hit a wall.

Two local men, the driver and front-seat passenger, were taken to accident and emergency with minor injuries.

The passenger had facial injuries and hip pain, the driver had a wrist injury.

Police and Guernsey Fire and Rescue also attended.
