PAUL LE BRUN has become the latest jiu-jitsu first-dan black belt following grading carried out by Renshi Olu Bamgbose, seventh dan black belt from the London headquarters of the World Kobudo Federation. Le Brun has studied the art for 13 years and this achievement reflects the hard work and dedication that he has put in.

To cap his achievement, Le Brun was surprised and felt privileged to be visited by founder of the club, Sensei Tony Dawson, during his award ceremony.

Black-belt status is probably the most important reward that any martial artist achieves.

'It is the ambition of students right from the very first day they start training,' said Sensei Barry Taylor, Le Brun's instructor.

'It is very strange, but when you finally reach this level and are rewarded with this grade, the moment is very emotional, realising that you have achieved the goal you set out to do all those years ago,' added Taylor.

'However, you also realise that it is not the end, but really only the beginning of a more in-depth study of all the skills and techniques you have acquired during your Kyu-grade training period,' he added.

Other grades awarded were to Taylor himself and Sensei Dave Jolly, both of whom achieved third-dan black belt status after 21 years of dedication to the sport and the club.

Alan Hamon and Aaron Le Galloudec both achieved first-Kyu brown belt status and Tom Bacon the third-Kyu blue-belt award.

This long established club now has a membership profile that reflects its dedication to the sport and its purpose to share knowledge, pass on the skills and techniques and embrace the philosophy to learn from each other in order to have a better understanding of one's self.

Having three black belts with 55 years' experience between them, two brown belts and a number of other senior grades puts the club in a good position to offer any potential student the very best in knowledge and experience of the martial arts.

The club offers classes for all ages and further information can be obtained by contacting Beau Sejour.
