PAUL BREHAUT could afford to give the Delancey Criteriums a miss and still clinch the Tour of Guernsey elite championship. In yesterday morning's closing event, a road race over approximately 35 miles on the L'Eree circuit, Brehaut won a sprint finish from Island Games colleague Aaron Bailey.
Twenty-one riders came to the start line and 1 hour 34-and-a-half minutes later eight were locked in a sprint finish on the Rocquaine coast road.
Brehaut got the nod while Simon Rowe won the sprint for third place.
Ann Bowditch finished seventh and with it clinched the First Division category.
The Second Division honours went comfortably to Lars Persson, while Ben Walden beat veteran Allan Renyard in the chase for the Third Division yellow jersey.
The previous evening most of the elite and First Division riders disappointingly gave the criteriums the miss.
In their absence Olly Duquemin won a family showdown with dad Bob by just 1sec.
Dan Owen took the under-14 honours while Stuart Sunderland topped the encouragingly big under-12s class.
and Allan Renyard take up the chase at the Delancey Park circuit.
