THERE was double disappointment for the Guernsey women's golf contingent at Grouville yesterday. Guernsey's silver and bronze division champions lost to their Jersey counterparts in very difficult and often gale-force conditions.

Appearing in her first CI final Jan Chamberlain crashed 9 and 7 to Jenny Deeley.

Mandy Webber was beaten on the last hole by Alex Mollin in the bronze final having been three up at one stage and one up with two remaining.

Deeley was always in control of the main match over 36 holes.

The Jersey champion from La Moye had been pegged back to two up when Chamberlain found a bunker on the 18th and lost the hole to go into lunch three adrift.

Deeley then won the first two holes of the afternoon round before another mini-revival by the Guernsey player saw her get it back to three down after five holes.

Chamberlain's resistance was broken over the next three holes, however.

Deeley won holes six, seven and eight, the latter with a birdie, and having halved the ninth she also won the 10th, with a birdie, and 11th to wrap up the match.

The Royal Guernsey Ladies hope to fare better today when they meet the Royal Jersey in the annual Falle Cup team clash.
