JUNIOR Wayne Moore goes into the final day of the 72-hole strokeplay championship with a two-shot lead after his net 65 on day three at L'Ancresse. Playing off 18 the youngster, who is already guaranteed a two-shot handicap reduction, moved to the top of the leaderboard by two from overnight leader Dave Roberts, who returned a 75.

Moore was outstanding over the front nine, hitting the turn in just three over gross.

After a five-six start, he birdied the third and parred five of the next six.

Three sixes on the inward half took some of the gloss of his round, but a par at the last ensured he beat Niall Counihan's net 66.

Press golf correspondent Jason Savident also shone, producing the lowest round off scratch.

Savident, who plays off five, shot a two-over 72, one inside a group of four players including top junior Jack Mitchell and island players Mick Marley and Ian Thomas.

Bobby Eggo shot an uncharacteristic 77, but still manages to hold onto the overall scratch lead by two shots from Marley and David Rowlinson.

Savident is still 10 shots back, but is certainly in contention for the U. V., being just three shots adrift of Moore.

Yet it had started all so badly for the L'Ancresse man.

He opened with a double-bogey and followed it with a five down the second and a four on the par-three third.

But that was the end of his travails.

Two birdies and four pars took him to the turn in 37 and he came home in 35 with his birdie at 13 cancelling out the bogey at 11.

Defending scratch champion Andy Eggo matched his brother with a 77, but is out of contention.
