THE Channel Islands have maintained their 100% record in the ECB Over-50s County Competition with victory over Somerset. In a rain-affected match at Weston-Super-Mare, the CI eased home by having a better run-rate.

Keith Dennis had won the toss and inserted Somerset on a difficult wicket with uneven bounce.

The match was reduced to 39 overs after a 77min. stoppage at 3.1 overs and the sides played through intermittent rain thereafter.

Considering the conditions, the CI produced a good performance in the field and their bowlers made the most of the pitch as the hosts were dismissed for 107 after being 10 for three at one stage.

Mike Kinder again bowled a miserly spell, taking two for six from his eight overs. Barry Middleton and Steve Birkett also claimed a couple of wickets apiece while John Tall finished with three for 18.

Ten overs of the CI innings had to be completed to constitute a game and their target was 2.75 runs per over.

Paul Robson and Mike Webber achieved the necessary, after the early dismissal of Birkett, when a final downpour concluded the proceedings at 10.5 overs.

The CI must beat Devon today to win the south-west group and then it is the quarter-final stage.
