ISLAND GAMES star Paul Brehaut clocked 10min. 45sec. and with that won the Guernsey Velo Club's five-mile time trial. Behind him Chris Le Page took second place in 11-18 and showed a promising return to form following injury problems.
Meanwhile, Ann Bowditch was the first woman in 12-18.
Bowditch will partner Le Page in the upcoming Duo Normand in late September.
Sam Nichols rode well to win the under-16s event in 14-31 from Peter Lee, two years his junior, who recorded a time of 15-07.
Guest rider, Richard De Broot, recorded an impressive time of 12-22, using a road bike without the aid of tri-bars or any of the modern cons of time-trialling.
Most interesting De Broot had just returned from the final two weeks of the Tour De France during which he rode the stages covered by Lance Armstrong, Jan Ullrich and the other professional riders.
No doubt a five-mile time trial seemed short in comparison.
A south-westerly force- four wind meant for a tougher outward leg on the west coast course, but the riders made use of the tailwind on the return.
