ROVERS gave themselves breathing space at the bottom of the table with a 73-run demolition of fellow strugglers DB Taverners. TOI Sylvans now have to beat Optimists by a huge score to boost their net run-rate, a seemingly impossible task.

Taverners were undone by another fine spell of bowling from Aaron Scoones who ripped through their middle order.

The greens had reached a promising 24 without loss in the third over chasing 119 for 5, but then Gordon Irish was run out, Mark Bisson bowled by Matt Jeffery, Martyn Bone caught on the boundary and Andy Boyce bowled, all with no addition to the score. Game over.

Rovers, and Scoones in particular, mopped up the rest of the card with few worries. Scoones collected five for 22 as Taverners' evening league season ended with a whimper.

Rovers' total was based on a 78 partnership between Jeffery and Mark Renouf.
