Third win but Box far from satisfied

THERE is still plenty to work on for the Guernsey Rugby Club, despite maintaining their 100% record in Hampshire League One on Saturday. The Sarnians defeated bottom side Fawley 48-30 and scored seven tries in the process, but there was cause for concern over the number of penalties the green-and-whites gave away.

Head coach Rob Box did not travel with the squad as he lived up to his pre-season promise that he would take an interest in all of the club's sides, not just the first XV, but he is keen to address the disciplinary problems quickly.

'Although I am pleased that we got the win, I am not pleased that we gave away 30 points,' said Box.

'Our discipline was not very good. It does not concern me so much that we conceded that many points; I am more concerned that we gave a lot of penalties away, which is something we will have to talk about at training on Tuesday.'

However, Guernsey captain Carl Johnson reported that the referee had been very fussy and overly strict.

Away from the discipline though, there were positives for the coach to take from the match.

'We had a lot of key guys out, guys that actually control what's happening in games for us.

'What it proves is that is that we can leave these guys out and still get a result.

'At the end of the day, it is another win away from home and that is what's important,' Box said.

The skipper led the way with a brace of tries and other scores came from Ian Johnston, Steve Burt, Dave Willis and Stuart Lloyd-Jones, while Alec Bailey scored his first try for the first team.

Guernsey now have a two-week break before their next fixture and they hope that extra time will allow injured players time to recover.
