NERINE A triumphed in both their National Clubs League Division Seven games against Clan and Woodleigh. In Saturday's match against league leaders Clan, the Guernsey champions were losing at half time. However, tactical changes by Nerine coach Gill Queripel saw the Guernsey side enter the last quarter winning and not looking back.
'It was definitely a squad performance, a hard game. We could not relax at any time,' said Queripel.
The only dampener in a 60-53 goal win was a serious knee injury to goal shooter Dawn Browning , who may now be out of the game for some time.
Yesterday's match was against bottom-of-the-league Woodleigh and Nerine ran out comfortable winners by 63-30.
The scoreline, however, does not tell the whole story as the Guernsey side never felt comfortable in the game.
Queripel said the awesome display of the Nerine defence, in particular, made the victory seem easier than it was.
Nerine are winning fans in the mainland as other coaches and umpires appreciate their 'Australian' style of play.
Queripel paid tribute to the whole squad: 'You're only as good as your bench.'
