TWO goals from the excellent Tony Veillard set Mosgrove Yobbos on the way to victory with a composed display against Unwantables in Division One of the Investec Men's League. Both Veillard's goals came in the first half of a passionate contest, the first being a very good effort and the second when he finished off a Nick Mahy short corner strike.
Yobbos' pace up front was a cause for concern all afternoon for UHC, although in island captain Adie Peacegood and fellow Guernsey players Rob Newton and Andy Alford, the blacks had threats of their own and they never stopped trying to get back into the game.
Their hopes, though, were severely dented just a couple of minutes into the second half when Colin Levine scored from another short corner routine.
Alford managed to reply five minutes later with a fierce strike of his own.
But Unwantables were reduced to nine men when they lost two players - John Bell and Alford - to the sin bin.
Newton did attempt the odd promising run and Peacegood battled away in the centre of the park, but the two-goal deficit was always going to be too great in the circumstances, especially with Yobbos calmly playing down the clock at every chance.
'I thought Tony Veillard was outstanding - he played very well.
'But all in all, it was a good team performance,' said Yobbos' skipper Steve Ward.
'Unwantables were perhaps not as strong as we were expecting, but they fought right up to the end.
All in all, it it was a good day for Yobbos. Their second team also recorded a victory, with Steve Queripel notching the only goal in their win over Beavers.
