De Carteret girls clock up dozen awards
THE de Carteret family keep shining on the Beau Sejour courts.
THE de Carteret family keep shining on the Beau Sejour courts. Nerine Trust's Anais de Carteret last week collected her sixth player-of-the-match nomination, an number equalled by her sister Kiara who has earned as many for Division Three championship-chasers Autumn Gold.
As last year's Division Four winners, Autumn Gold had a busy week with two consecutive matches against Heritage Two.
But they took the spoils both times thanks to some lovely shooting from Julie Fallaize and Jenny King, despite some strong opposition from Heritage's defence.
Elsewhere in Division Three, Nerine Trust L have called it a day, withdrawing from the senior league.
They were the youngest team in the league and although they have collected points twice this season, are going to concentrate on Junior League instead where the competition will be much more at their level.
Their last match against PWC saw every player nominated for the player of the match award and their experienced opponents were impressed by the youngster's dogged determination and stamina.
In Division Two, Sarnians Two had a rough time against Nerine Trust F, losing by just two goals.
In a match that was a real test for umpires Gwen Trump and Kirsty Young, fortunes swayed between the two teams.
At half-time Nerine held a six-goal advantage due, in the main, to the centre court skills of Donna Brehaut and the shooting ability of Mandy Vinning.
Sarnians' response was to switch their defence around and bring on Helen de Vial, with devastating effect.
Nerine failed to score a single goal in the third quarter giving Sarnians the advantage, but it was not to last as they faltered in the closing minutes of the match to lose 25-23.
The top flight produced no surprises with Nerine Trust A comfortably beating Chandlers, Sarnians One doing much the same to Nerine Trust E and Nerine Trust B beating club-mates Nerine Trust D.
Sarnians' expected win against Nerine Trust E stemmed from the established partnership of GS Zoe Batiste and GA Bridget Yabsley, who are enjoying a great season in tandem.
The goals flowed from the outset and Nerine were 13 goals down in the first quarter alone.
Games against the giants of Guernsey netball can all too often cast despondency on the weaker teams, but not so Nerine Trust E.
Centre Laura Webber in particular shone for her side in the 57-13 defeat by the defending champions, Nerine Trust A.
