IT WAS all right in the end. Fish were caught in the rearranged Mick's Fishing Supplies Open Mullet competition which was held last Sunday. At the original event in January no mullet were caught, but on this occasion the 49 competitors managed to find eight between them. The top prize of a mullet rod went to Mark Thomson, who landed a 4-12-8 specimen.

It was pleasing to see two women anglers appearing on the catch list.

Charmaine Slimm did well to take second place and a prize of a reel with a 3-12-0 fish, while Annette Slimm won a £10 tackle voucher for finishing in eighth place with a mullet of 2-6-3. The reel for third place went to John Rothwell for a 3-3-4 fish.

The £20 tackle voucher for fourth place went to GMC secretary Mike Weysom who landed a 3-1-8 mullet.

Winners of the £10 tackle vouchers for fifth, sixth and seventh places were Richard Le Ray 3-0-3, Paul Carre 2-14-11 and Lee Gillot 2-12-7.

Although weather conditions appeared to be excellent for the event, with a light wind and calm sea, the competitors did find a few problems. A heavy swell, particularly on the south coast, and gin-clear water were not the best conditions for mulletting.

Before the presentation of the awards, GMC president Joe Gomez thanked the anglers and the sponsor for their support over the unusual situation of two Opens in two months.
