A SELL-OUT crowd of 730 people will pack the Beau Sejour Open Show this evening. The final tickets were snapped up almost two weeks ago for the 15-bout event, which pits Guernsey against Manchester Select.

Once again, Matt Jennings tops the bill and Amalgamated Boys' Club coach Graham Guilbert believes his star boxer will send the spectators home happy.

'I do not think Jennings will have too much trouble.

'He is a bit taller than his opponent and although he is very durable, I do not think he is as powerful as Jennings. But you can never be too sure beforehand,' said Guilbert.

But Jennings is just one of the several local boxers whom Guilbert recommends watching.

'Being the Open Show, they are all putting a bit more into it because they will have their parents and families there.

'The juniors, in particular, are looking forward to it,' he said.

Tom Martin is one boxer who is definitely anxious to get into the ring after the trials and tribulations of last weekend when he won the Western Counties title without having a bout.

'He is raring to go,' said Guilbert.

'Last weekend we were all changed and all warmed up when they came in and told us he would not be boxing. He was quite upset so he can't wait for this show.'

James Woolnough, Bradley Watson, Matthew Clark and Michael Duff are also looking good, according to their coach while Guilbert is looking forward to seeing some of his less-experienced boxers in action.

'Daniel Harvey lost his first bout but was a bit nervous. He is looking very strong.

'Dave Young is looking really good for a novice boy. He is tall, lean and quite strong as well.

'He lost his first bout but now he knows what to expect - it is a learning curve for these boys.

'We have got a couple of new boys in Adam Falla and Simon Hainsworth and they have got bouts with two newcomers as well so that should be quite interesting,' Guilbert said.
