Jet-lagged Wright breaks Le Page's domination
TERRY WRIGHT won the third event of the Guernsey Velo Club's Easter stage race, the 10-mile time trial.
TERRY WRIGHT won the third event of the Guernsey Velo Club's Easter stage race, the 10-mile time trial. Still jet-lagged from a Caribbean break, Wright won from Chris Le Page in a time of 23.13.
But the ride of the day went to Nick Mann who improved on his personal best by over two minutes.
Conditions were far from perfect but this didn't stop Ann Bowditch from putting in a stunning ride to finish ninth, beating many of her male competitors.
The under-16s race was won by Peter Lee, with Nathan Baudains taking victory in the under-14s
Le Page had won the opening Carey Olsen time trial, covering the one-mile course in exactly two minutes for an average speed of 30 mph. Simon Rowe was second, just one second back, with Mike Brehaut third.
Le Page then went on to win the Good Friday road race over four laps of the reservoir circuit.
In the elite category Le Page again won by just one second, this time from Sean Elliott with Danny Guillemette in third.
The category one race saw all the field working well for the first half of the race, but on lap three Mann made his move, attacking on the climb out from Les Vauxbelets.
With most of the group content to let him go, it was category leader Simon Rowe and Stuart Le Tissier who worked to bring him back to the pack.
Final lap attacks came thick and fast with Alan Rowe showing his hand on the climb up from the Dos d'Ane.
Ultimately, the bunch were scattered as Ann Bowditch powered up the penultimate hill, but it was Simon Rowe who triumphed to record his second category win of the weekend.
Category two saw Bob Green and Dave Gallienne break clear of the pack with some attacking riding, the pair making their move on lap two and working well together to build a substantial lead.
Gallienne forced the pace several times on the last lap, but Green proved too tough and showed his rival a clean pair of heels on the sprint finish at Mont Varouf School.
Category three was another team effort, this time Mike Serafin and Andrew Colver working well to move clear of Aiden Stanford and Sam Nichols.
Serafin proved too strong and won the sprint to take the overall lead in the category.
Peter Lee won the one lap time-trial in an impressive 19.42 from second-placed Karl Robert.
