CHRIS LE PAGE emerged victorious in the Guernsey Velo Club's Road Race Champion-ship event held on the Vazon circuit. This is a one-off race over 66 miles where the winner of which is crowned club champion.

The first rider to show his hand was Dave Gallienne who attacked on lap one and opened up a lead of 30 seconds.

Gallienne has been having the season of his life this year, but even he couldn't stay clear for long and was back in the pack on lap two.

Paul Brehaut made his long-awaited comeback to the local scene and was soon back into the swing of things, attacking constantly to soften the legs of the opposition.

With Brehaut in the peleton, riders, except one, seemed keen to keep an eye on him rather than attack to their own ends.

Emerging star Tobyn Horton bided his time until the final lap and seizing his opportunity attacked going up the Les Vauxbelets climb.

The pack were slow reacting and Horton quickly opened up a gap, but Le Page was not going to let anyone get away at this late stage and chased the lone rider down.

As the leaders burst into view at the La Houguette finish Brehaut had the lead, but Le Page passed him to win comfortably from a hard-charging Horton.

'It was a hard race,' said Le Page. 'I worked with Brehaut early on but making a break is always tough on this course.'
