SIXTY Royal Guernsey pairings headed out for the mixed greensomes JLF Trophy, sponsored by Jackson's Garage; three of them came in with an impressive 41 Stableford points. Tied for the lead were Jackie Parnwell, who enjoyed her outing with former island champion Mick Marley, while Angela Goddard partnered the current men's champion David Rowlinson in also totalling 41.

But both pairs were outdone on countback by Sue Wellfair and Keith Germain.

Meanwhile, Debbie Richards and Mandy Webber won the Royal Guernsey Ladies' Miles Trophy foursomes final against Jenny Kimber and Carol Wood.

Webber and Richards maintained control for most of the 18 holes and by the 11th green the fine drives of the former and hot putting of her partner had taken them into a commanding five-up lead. The match was eventually won 6 and 4.

Competitors in the Guernsey Junior Golf Club event endured a brisk westerly wind which, for most, led to some high scoring.

In the category one white tee competition, James Cooper blitzed the field by nine shots off his 14 handicap to earn the Sheldon Trophy.

His 77 was also the day's lowest gross score.

His round consisted of two birdies at the fifth and the 10th.

Jamie Le Page (20 handicap) finished runner-up with a net 72.

In the category-two, red-tee event, Emma Le Bargy made a strong statement for girls' golf by firing a net 59 in the Griffin Cup.

But young Andy Stuart put paid to her hopes with a fantastic round.

The 27-handicapper shot a net 57 and with it a 10-shot reduction in his handicap.
