MORE golfers than ever have applied to take part in the Investec L'Ancresse Open on 7 and 8 August and the event is now fully booked. More than 200 players will take to the course in the four-ball team event, while 160 individuals will tee off in the singles competition, the flagship event in the club's calendar.

Competition secretary Dave Platt said he was delighted the event had been oversubscribed.

'We have more overseas players coming to Guernsey than ever. Some of the British players have heard rave reviews of the event and we are pleased to be able to host them this year,' Mr Platt said.

'We have really developed an exciting professional weekend of golf and that could only be done with the help of Investec, which works hard to ensure that all the players have a great time. It's their professionalism that makes the event such a draw for golfers in the Channel Islands and further afield.'

Investec general manager Mort Mirghavameddin welcomed the news that the event was fully subscribed.

'Word is obviously getting around about what an excellent tournament this is and how good Guernsey is at hosting this golf open,' he said.

'The quality of the golf being played will be excellent and Investec will be on hand to play our part in ensuring a great weekend is had by all.'
