Bisson so close to a 63

IT IS rare that any sportsman can come so agonisingly close to a record and be so philosophical about it. But when Danny Bisson's putt on the 18th horseshoed out, leaving him with a record-equalling 64 at L'Ancresse, not a record-breaking 63, he accepted it as 'just one of those things'.

'What can I say? It was just a good round of golf. It was a 12ft putt with a bit of break and when it was six inches from the hole, I thought it was in. But it lipped out,' he said.

'I'd had a couple of chances before and missed from eight feet at the 12th and 13th, but ?if? is a big word in golf. I left a couple out but I holed a few that made up for it.'

What pleased him more was the realisation that hard practice had paid off and his golf had come on so well. Bisson has now also lowered his handicap to scratch.

'He puts it all in perspective: I could hit thousands of golf balls and not know what I'm doing wrong, but he spots it. We've tweaked my swing, shortened it and I have more consistency now.'

That showed during Bisson's round, when he hit 12 of the 14 fairways and 16 greens in regulation.

'I can't emphasise enough how much he has helped me. I feel I've gone to another level.'
