VISITOR Kelvin Tulie walked away with the top prize at the 14th Guernsey Open Charity Golf Classic at La Grande Mare. Twenty-handicap Tulie shot 124 for the two rounds and finished one clear of the home club's Stephen Berry.

Another Grande Mare member, Matthew Tullier, was third on the 127 mark and St Pierre Park's Tom Vaughan was fourth, a further shot adrift.

Tulie was a little off the pace after the opening 18 holes, but produced a round of 60 on day two to snatch the trophy.

In the women's stakes Wendy Meerveld beat her fellow LGM clubmate Marilyn Pugh on countback after both finished on the 130 mark.

Pugh added a 69 to her opening 61, while Meerveld, who plays off 15, produced rounds of 64 and 66.

More success came La Grande Mare's way in the chase for the scratch prize.

That went to one-handicap Neil Black who shot net 133 (67, 66).

The Vic Clark Memorial Trophy went to LGM man Ian Hardman for his net 61 off a six handicap.

The Barclays Team trophy was won by a Smokey and the Bandits combination representing three of the island's clubs.

Geoff Davies (St Pierre Park), James Domaille (L'Ancresse) and La Grande Mare's Berry and Clive Gibbons produced a combined net score of 532.
