MATT LE TISSIER will tomorrow be defending his Investec L'Ancresse Open title among 162 players vying for one of the most prestigious trophies in CI golf. The former England footballer tees off at 8.15am in the company of another former Vale Rec player, scratch golfer Danny Bisson.

Le Tissier, a member of Hampshire club Stoneham, surprised himself by winning last August.

He shot a net 65 off his six handicap to beat top junior, Jack Mitchell, on countback.

Meanwhile Bobby Eggo seeks to complete a 10th scratch title in the 26-year history of the competition and his third in a row.

But among his big rivals for that award will be his younger brother, Andy, a winner in 2001.

As usual the open was over-subscribed, as is today's Investec Team Golf event at L'Ancresse.

Competition secretary Dave Platt said that word of mouth had led to more visiting players boosting the entry.

'We have more overseas players coming to Guernsey than ever before. Some of the British players have heard rave reviews of the event and we are only too pleased to host them,' he added.
