CHRIS LE PAGE caused the sporting upset of the week with a fine victory in the Guernsey Velo Club's 25-mile time trial. Road-race champion Le Page relegated Terry Wright into second: it was the latter's first defeat of the season.
And Le Page did it the hard way, coming back from 20 seconds down on the in-form Wright at the halfway stage to win by 19sec.
Only three riders dipped under the hour, due to a mixture of the weather conditions and the course.
The Cobo 25 uses the flat west-coast roads, while the slightly quicker L'Eree course utilises the run down from St Peter's Post Office before turning onto the coast.
Conditions were poor - a stiff westerly wind adding to the damp and slippery surface.
The only record in danger was the number of punctures, with five unlucky riders falling foul. Lyn Coombs managed to pick up two in the last 100 yards.
Ann Bowditch was the first woman home. She was pleased with her improving form as the National Circuit Championships are only three weeks away.
The event, held in Northamptonshire, is an 18-mile sporting time trial. The course is short, sharp and hilly which should suit her riding style.
