THE Guernsey Island Games Association has agreed a lucrative sponsorship deal with MeesPierson Reads. The local financial institution will back the GIGA for the next two Games in Shetland 2005 and Rhodes 2007 with an option to support them at the 2009 event.

Dave Dorey, chairman of the GIGA, made the announcement last night at their monthly meeting.

'Taking part in the Games with 250 competitors and officials is an expensive and time-consuming business,' said Dorey.

'As the umbrella organisation that manages Guernsey's participation in every Games, we represent the island at the International IGA. The smooth running of transportation, accommodation, medical supervision and many other issues for our team members at each Games is our responsibility.

'Without the help and encouragement of MeesPierson Reads our team would not be the success that it is. We are delighted that they have agreed to support us for the next four years.'

MeesPierson Reads financial director Peter Vidamour added that the company was pleased to be associated with the GIGA.

'We are confident that our contribution will not only assist GIGA in its organisational efforts, but will be of genuine benefit to the sports people who will be representing us,' he said.
