ROB BOX'S Guernsey side began life in London Four South-West in destructive fashion on Saturday. Despite a horrendous journey that included a lengthy delay at Gatwick Airport and difficulties finding the ground which meant that the kick-off had to be put back by half-an-hour, the Sarnians hammered Old Amplefordians 46-8 with an excellent seven-try display.

Back-rowers Matthew Morgan and Darren Jones both scored a brace of tries and there was one apiece for Paul Livesey, Russ Roberts and captain Carl Johnson.

Dewald van Wyk added four conversions and a penalty.

'We played pretty well,' said a delighted skipper.

'Our scrum and line-out completely dominated them.

'By the second half we were just shoving them off their own ball.

'They are a pretty good team, quite well drilled, but we were just a lot bigger and stronger.'

Johnson added that the James Regnard's move to lock worked well while both Morgan and Jones were outstanding.

However, the captain also pointed out that because Old Amplefordians have just been promoted to the league from Surrey One, too much should not be read into this result.

'We are the two new teams in the league so neither can gauge where we are in comparison to the rest of the teams,' the captain said.
