ST JACQUES hopes of building on a promising first performance of the season have suffered a set back with the news that Jersey's Les Quennevais were unable to raise a side for the match at KGV tomorrow. Guernsey's all-blacks will now have to wait until Sunday 17 October when they face United Banks in Jersey to play their second JRA/Emeraude Lines League fixture.

'It is a problem within the league that travelling sides struggle because of the costs,' said a frustrated John Bell, the St Jacques coach.

Bell was very pleased with the performance from his troops in his first game in charge despite it ending in a 19-10 defeat against Beeches, where only a last minute try took the game away from the Sarnians.

The Saints tries came from newcomers GH Smit and Jerry Dutoit.

'There were some very positive things to take from the game.

'We were only narrowly beaten but the guys who won the competition last time and we put out a signal that we are not going to be a pushover this year,' Bell said.

'We were still a bit rusty. The forwards played well whereas the back line is new and needs time to settle. I can only see us improving this year.

'United Banks are a good level to see where we are. If we beat them then we have progressed well.'

St Jacques training sessions are on Wednesdays at 6pm at the KGV.

The club are always keen to welcome new members. For more information visit www.stjacquesrfc.com.
