GUERNSEY couple Jamie and Vanessa Le Tissier have enjoyed another successful trip to compete in England. In Patchway, Bristol, they entered the senior pre-amateur ballroom event, dancing waltz, tango, foxtrot and quickstep. They placed second.

They followed that by competing for the senior four-dance trophy, in which they placed third with the same four dance styles.

But they produced two wins in the Latin section. First, in the senior pre-amateur section, their cha-cha, samba, rumba and pasa doble were judged the best. And to end a tough day, they added the jive to those four dances to win the senior five-dance trophy.

'We're pleased to do so well because it keeps the sport in the news,' said Jamie.

'There are more and more people dancing in Guernsey, we regularly get professionals James and Claire Taplin over to coach and next year there will be a fantastic competition here in Guernsey with some of the best dancers in the UK and Europe.

'Dance is a sport that requires fitness, skill, ability, training, commitment, just like any other. And it gives you such a workout.'

The Le Tissiers' next competition trip will take them to Cheltenham on 24 October for the South-west and West Trophy Day.

Professionals James and Claire Taplin are in Guernsey this weekend holding their latest dance masterclasses at Styx and St Martin's community centre.
