STUART LE PREVOST was rewarded for a fine season with the bat for Total Cobo and Guernsey when he received the Guernsey Cricket Association player-of-the-year award. At Friday's presentation evening, the leading run-scorer in weekend cricket with 524, and who also put bat to ball with great effect in Guernsey's Cherry Godfrey inter-insular victory, was a popular winner.
Le Prevost also crashed 210 runs in the shorter game, usually at a-run-a-ball or better.
Cable & Wireless Rovers and Cobo shared the majority of silverware between them.
Three Rovers received player-of-the-year awards. Tim Duke, whose prolific second half of the evening league season helped produce 630 runs at an average of 90, and 19 wickets, was Premier One player of the year.
Richard Headington, who combined opening the batting with keeping wicket to such great effect was the veteran of the year. He hit 315 weekend runs and 392 evening runs.
And Stuart Bisson capped a fine all-round season with the afternoon player-of-the-year award. Some 160 runs and 19 wickets in the longer game added to 11 evening league scalps and some valuable cameos with the bat. He also had a fine knock for Guernsey in the B inter-insular.
Clubhouse Optimists' hard-hitting batsman and quick bowler Divan van den Heever was the young player of the year. His club season produced 753 runs and 25 wickets, both very rapidly.
Rovers also won three league titles, while Cobo picked up two knockout trophies and the inaugural KPMG Channel Islands Club Championship shield.
The guest speaker was Malcolm Ashton, who has enjoyed a long career as England and BBC scorer and statistician.
