One of the Guernsey Velo Club's fast-improving members, Pat Down, teamed up with the talented Ann Bowditch to demolish the field on their way to victory in the Grand Prix des Gentlemen. The pair set a new mixed record for the course on what was a very tough day.
A winning margin of over one-and-a-half minutes showed that they are still in excellent form.
History was also made as the fastest overall time in this race has never been set by a mixed pairing. The speedy duo were ecstatic with the win, as this was Down's first Velo Club victory.
The wind was north-easterly, force five to six, which proved difficult for most.
The second-placed pairing of Bob Duquemin and Tim Martin rode well together and were only too happy to feature among the extensive prize list.
Allan Renyard rode solo due to an odd number of entrants, finishing with a time of 42.08 - a good ride considering the lack of a partner.
The event, sponsored by Wedlake Bell, is traditionally run as a two-up ride in which entrants are encouraged to partner riders from a different category.
Club president Dave Harry made sure nobody went home empty-handed as the marshals and timekeepers were also rewarded for their efforts.
