Mashie leaders pick a good day to lose

THE combination of Gary King and Keith Wheeler will meet Ken Carre and James Domaille in the play-off for the L'Ancresse Golf Club Afternoon League today. Despite suffering defeat against Howard Mauger and Brian Lucas in their last match, King and Wheeler won the Mashie section of the Sercombe & Son-sponsored competition.

The only pair who could have taken advantage of the leaders' defeat were Tony Le Page and George Gillespie. However, they were also beaten by an in- form Bobby Eggo and Roger Chauvel.

The outcome of the Niblick section was decided when Carre and Domaille played their closest rivals Mick Le Poidevin and John Allez. In a high-quality game, Domaille's 66 gross score was just enough to earn a one-hole victory.

Long-time leaders Mick King and Dick Young halted a two-game losing run with a win in their final game but finished one point behind the winners.
