GOLFERS at L'Ancresse can look forward to upgraded facilities as they drive up for a new summer season. Royal Guernsey and Junior Club members, in particular, will have spanking new locker rooms before long to go with the improvements in practice facilities.

The most notable change to the practice arrangements is the completion of the covered driving range.

Six bays are now protected from the elements and the remainder will have new mats.

'Two of the bays have been specifically set up for the pros and will have mirrors in them to help with their lessons,' reports new Royal Guernsey Golf Club captain, Peter Symes.

'We will really have a first-class facility,' he added.

The range improvements come quickly on the back of the introduction of the new putting and chipping practice green between the two clubs.

The area came into play last year and after taking a while to settle down is now playing well.

Inside the Royal, both the men and women can soon look forward to upgraded locker rooms, while the juniors will have new facilities around the end of May.

On the course, the teeboxes at the first, eighth and 10th holes have all been levelled off and some of the bunkers have been refaced.

Meanwhile, the summer season fast approaches. Royal start theirs with the first Henderson Cup qualifier on Sunday 13 March, but a week before the L'Ancresse open theirs.
