President steps down, but will have board role
DAVE NUSSBAUMER will step down as Guernsey Cricket Association president at its annual meeting on Monday.
DAVE NUSSBAUMER will step down as Guernsey Cricket Association president at its annual meeting on Monday. However, his involvement with the sport will not diminish. If anything, it could increase.
With Gary Tapp off the island for much of this year through work commitments, Nussbaumer is set to step into his shoes as vice-president of the Guernsey Cricket Board - an appointment that was rubber-stamped at a board meeting on Monday.
Add to that his roles with the Guernsey Young Cricketers Development Committee and Cobo Cricket Club and it is clear that his summer will remain busy.
'I am certainly staying heavily involved,' Nussbaumer said.
'My heart lies in the development of Guernsey cricket rather than overseeing the leagues and cups although, of course, I want to see it succeed at club level.
'Also, I have gone back and taken on the role as Cobo president and I think it is inappropriate for a club president to also be GCA president because there is a possible conflict of interests.'
Mark Latter, the current GCA secretary, has agreed to step up to the presidency. The deadline for other nominations has now passed so he will be unopposed.
Nussbaumer gave his successor his full backing after he reflected on his time as president.
'It has had its trials and tribulations but the GCA committee is a great one and clubs should feel very privileged to have it serving them,' he said.
'Guernsey cricket is in as strong a position as it ever has been and I am sure Mark will do a great job.'
Dave Piesing, chairman of the GCB, said he was happy Nussbaumer's involvement in local cricket was continuing.
'Because of the way it is structured, the GCA president automatically has a seat on the GCB and so Dave has been involved, but by standing down, he was giving that up.
'He wanted to stay on, we want him to stay involved in some role and with Gary unavailable it seemed logical to ask Dave to stand in as vice-president until the annual meeting in October when we can review the situation. It is quite a good solution really,' said Piesing.
