THERE was frustration for the home crowd and the island's top two senior boxers when two of the North of England select squad failed to arrive in the island for the final dinner show of the season. Matt Jennings was left without a bout again, as was Michael Duff.

Jennings had been scheduled to top the bill against the unbeaten Frenchman D. Kangulungu.

'The bloke went back to France,' said Amalgamated Boys' Club coach and match-maker, Graham Guilbert.

'They were all at the airport waiting for him and he didn't show up.'

Duff was left on the sidelines by a late injury - broken collar-bone - to his scheduled opponent, which meant the hard-hitting Matthew Clark was last on at St Pierre Park.

Clark did not disappoint the fans, alhough he did not get the decision on this occasion.

'Woolford was on the run all the time and Clarky caught him twice and wobbled him,' said Guilbert.

'It was a toe-to-toe cracker, but the split decision went to the Liverpool lad who had more experience.'

Alderney had four boxers on the bill, three of which emerged victorious.

Adam Rose won on points an entertaining bout with J. Farrell, Darren Gaudion edged a tough, no-holds barred bout with southpaw Tommy Diaz and Dave Chadney boxed well again to win on points.

Joel Mitton, however, lost to J. Burgess.

There was mixed fortunes for two of Guilbert's emerging youngsters.

Callum Pearson stopped his opponent in the opening round, while Alex Argo dominated the opening two rounds but then had to retire what transpired to be a broken wrist.

Amnalgamated's James Woolnough also ended up on the losing end of his fly-weight bout against J. Pilkin-gton on a judges' decision.
