FOR the second year in succession, Jason Le Noury was the Sarnia Specimen Club's overall champion. His success in the 2004 season was clearly illustrated by the number of awards he received at the annual dinner and presentation night at Hotel de Havelet,.

Besides the overall championship, he took the Guernsey shore and charter boat championships, the runners-up prizes in the Guernsey shore championship and the small boat competition and two fish of the month awards.

The prize for top fish of the year went to Mark Gillson for his 14-0-10 Bailiwick boat record bull huss.

The club had a very successful year and no fewer than six new club record fish were caught - three boat and three shore.

The shore-caught records were Alan Martel, 1-14-0 Couch's sea bream, Adie Coquelin, 33-12-0 tope and Mark Gillson, 1-13-5 trigger fish.

The boat-caught record specimens were Mick Le Noury, 13-15-9 bass and 23-4-0 cod and Mark Gillson, 14-0-10 bull huss.

The evening was compered by Alan Martel with the awards being presented to the winners by Joy Le Page.

STEVE HUXSTER has won the West Coast Sea Angling Club's Carlton Shield.

The event attracted 18 members, but at the end of the six-hour roving shore match, only five had fish to bring to the weigh-in.

The total catch consisted of 23 garfish and one ballan wrasse, a result that confirmed the extremely poor shore fishing at present.

Huxster's winning bag was 14 garfish for 7-4-0 and 57 points. Shane Huxster was second with three garfish and a ballan wrasse worth a total of 27.5 points.

The other three all had two garfish.

Shane Bentley's weighed 1-2-0 for 8.5 points, Claire Bohan's 0-14-0 for 7.5 points and Paul McLaren's 0-11-0 for 6.75 points.

The competition kitty was for the two heaviest bags, excluding ballan wrasse, and was shared by Steve and Shane Huxster.

The result had no effect on the championship as the top three failed to weigh in.

Mark Le Page remains in the lead with 233 points, second is Michael Le Page, 192.75 and third, Mark Hooper 182.5.

SARK AC has completed its second year in a very strong and healthy position, enjoying support that would be the envy of some of Guernsey's larger established clubs.

Membership stands at 45, with the average turnout for the monthly shore competitions being well over 20.

During the year, members landed 17 different species during these matches. The most prolific species was ballan wrasse with 163 being brought to the weigh-ins, the heaviest being a 6-7-0 fish by Lawrence Roberts. Scad came second with 41 and black bream third with 38.

At the club's annual meeting, chairman Glyn Williams, secretary Stephanie Guille and treasurer Andy Grant were re-elected.

The meeting decided to enlarge the committee with the addition of an ordinary member and this position was filled by the newly crowned club champion Liz Dewe.

The first competition is on 23 April.
