MATT LE BER and Dave Trebert were worthy winners of the GIBA Easter Three-Bowl Pairs Tournament. Playing as the Lager Louts, they defeated fellow local bowlers The Windy Boys, Craig Dorey and Steve Desperques, in a superb final at the Guernsey Bowls Stadium.

They collected the £250 first prize and the Bits and Pieces Trophy.

Le Ber's drawing at lead was excellent and if Dorey did edge a bowl nearer to the jack, his opponent resorted to the drive with devastating effect.

The two skips, Trebert and Desperques, enjoyed a great tussle.

Although the Lager Louts dropped a shot on the first end, they levelled on the next and were never behind after that.

Le Ber and Trebert had qualified from their second stage round-robin group thanks to a superb last end performance from Trebert in their final game against the Double Trouble team of John Wallis and Richard Hill.

Wallis and Hill were one shot up and holding three on the last end.

Victory would have seen them through to the final as both teams were undefeated up to that point.

However, three excellent deliveries from Trebert produced a shot to Lager Louts and the draw was sufficient to see put them through thanks to a better shot difference by plus two.

Dorey and Desperques qualified for the final with a 26-14 win over Us Too (Shirley Petit and Wilma Le Feuvre) who had both played well throughout the weekend and were unbeaten to that point.

The play-off for third place was another excellent game which eventually went to way of Wallis and Hill, who were the only team to finish the weekend unbeaten.

In the Plate final, promising junior Todd Priaulx put in a fine performance as lead for the Skuds. He was ably backed up by Keith de la Mare at skipas they ran out comfortable 19-10 winners against Scorpions, made up of Special Olympics member Richard Truelove and Paul Ingrouille.

Raymond Sarre and Reg Dowinton had joined Ingrouille in other matches while the Skuds had been assisted by Steve Bichard.

The tournament was regarded as a huge success and attracted teams from Crawley and East Dorset, who will be returning next year with more players.
