Slimm squeezes in for Panthers

LUCY SLIMM snatched a pure poacher's goal in the dying moments to settle a dramatic Investec women's knockout final at Foote's Lane on Saturday. The Panthers forward was on hand to turn home from just a yard-or-so out to complete a fine comeback for her side.

Cubs held the half-time lead by the odd goal in five thanks to goals from Debbie Allen, Michelle Gilson and Mandy Damarell.

Panthers had responded through Amanda de Jersey and Kath Guille in the opening period.

Soon after the turnaround, Liz Stonebridge had levelled things up following a short corner and both sides had chances to win it, but it was left to Slimm to deliver the decisive blow.

The men's final was also a tight affair as The Clubhouse Unwantables edged past Yobbos 3-2.
