STRICTLY Come Dancing stars set the island alight at the weekend. The Guernsey Amateur Dancesport Association brought World, European and UK professional Latin finalists Darren Bennett and Lilia Kopylova to the island for a special demonstration and gala dinner dance at St Pierre Park Hotel on Saturday evening.

La Fontaine Room was packed with 226 people.

'It was an absolutely phenomenal display. The whole evening was better than expected and a major success,' said association chairman Jamie Le Tissier.

The visiting pair performed five Latin dances' the cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and the jive.

And Lilia wore a different outfit for each.

'She was stunning and the ladies loved him,' said Mr Le Tissier.

A social dance competition was also held and went down a storm with talented local dancers.

Representatives from festival sponsor Yorkshire Guernsey had a fantastic evening and have already agreed to support another event.

The association's next big event on 15 July features top UK professional Erin Boag and Anton du Veke, who have also starred in the top-rated television show and who are known for their showpieces.

Over half the tickets have been sold already.
