GUERNSEY yesterday won a dramatic Centenary Muratti replay after a penalty shoot-out. With less than a minute to go before the end of extra time Jersey were leading

3-2 when substitute striker Jon Veron struck a left-footed shot into the net.

That took the game into penalties where goalkeeper Nathan Pattimore, a replacement for injured regular keeper Jody Bisson, became the hero of the afternoon. His three saves ensured that the Muratti Vase would leave Springfield with the visitors as Guernsey ran out 3-2 winners of the shoot-out.

The game was a relief for Dave Cherry, managing director of sponsors Cherry Godfrey, who had watched the teams play out a dull 0-0 draw in front of a crowd of 5,000 at Foote's Lane two weeks ago.

This match made up for it. 'I think this game had everything that the first game did not have,' said Guernsey manager Steve Ogier.

'You couldn't write the script ' it was unbelievable, unbelievable.'
