KAY MAPLEY and Di Hudson will contest today's 36 holes women's final at L'Ancresse. Hudson, the number two seed, was a comfortable 6 and 4 winner over Di Aitchison yesterday morning, but Mapley had to pull out all the stops and get a bit of fortune on the closing holes to sneak past top seed, Sue Wellfair one up.

'I was fortunate over those last few holes,' admitted the four-times champion who bought a new Big Bertha driver a couple of weeks back and is benefiting from the extra distance off the tee.

'She had a few chances on the last few holes. There was very little in it,' said Mapley, who saw her opponent miss some crucial chances on the last three holes.

At one down, Wellfair will be kicking herself for missing a five-foot birdie putt at the 16th and she missed another winning opportunity at the 17th, this time from six.

Then, at the last, she found the hollow guarding the front right of the green and when her putt for par missed, she conceded the match to an opponent who had chipped up to five feet from the right apron.

The bronze division final will be between Sonia Graham and Geraldine Crispini.
