Pessis limp over the line

NRG PESSIMISTS made a meal of things when they defeated DHS St Pierre at the KGV yesterday in Barclays Evening League Division One. Chasing a low total of 93, Dave Piesing's men were 49 for no loss in the eighth over. With another 13 overs to go, they lost five wickets and were lucky not to lose more as their batsmen continually played and missed at St Pierre's all-seam attack.
'We certainly made heavy weather of that,' said Piesing afterwards.
'We had a couple of soft dismissals that didn't help. We were impressive in the field, but then with the bat we were very stuttering.
'James Warr bowled very well as he bowled a full length right in the batsmen's block hole that made it difficult to score from.'
Warr returned figures of six for 14 runs from his five overs. He dismissed Andy Priaulx and Rachid Frihmat with consecutive balls and was unlucky not to get a hat-trick as Dave Hearse came out to bat and swung wildly at a delivery that missed the off stump by just a whisker.
The next ball he repeated the same shot and was clean bowled.
Paul Wakeford's 29 formed the backbone of St Pierre's total with after his opening partner Carl Le Tissier was run out for a duck.
In contrast, Pessimists started well as Andrew Boyce was promoted up the order to open with Warr. Boyce produced a couple of lusty blows over the leg side but was caught out for 18 by Wayne Barrett, who had dropped him a little earlier.
Then came the wobble as Pierre Moody was bowled by Javan Isabelle, who had ironed out his stop-start run up, and both Warr and Richard Angliss were run out.
Warr had looked good for his 33 until he went for a suicidal run at the non-striker's end as Frihmat turned and threw down the stumps.
It was a good piece of work by the young bowler who, after a shaky start, got his rhythm and bowled a tight line at a nice pace.
Piesing and Jeff Martel eventually got their team home as the evening started to close in.
