Another year older, still a second faster
BIRTHDAY boy Graham Le Maitre celebrated with victory in the Guernsey Velo Club's first 10-mile time trial to be held on the Cobo/Pleinmont course.
BIRTHDAY boy Graham Le Maitre celebrated with victory in the Guernsey Velo Club's first 10-mile time trial to be held on the Cobo/Pleinmont course. Le Maitre proved older doesn't mean slower as the 45-year-old crossed the line in a time of 22min. 17sec.
Near perfect conditions meant that many riders were treated to personal best times.
Nathan Baudains, who is just one third of Le Maitre's age, continued his recent run of impressive personal best rides.
Baudains is getting faster by the week and with half the season still remaining, is sure to improve further.
Inter-insular time trial champion Caroline Wickham smashed the over-45s record. The Island Games rider knocked six minutes and 14 seconds off the 10-mile mark.
Under-14 competitor James Cameron set a personal best time of 28-29. What makes Cameron's ride superb is that the youngster uses a standard road bike with no aerodynamic aids. The addition of a set of tri-bars will have his times tumbling further.
Ride of the day goes to Matt Le Huray, whose smooth style took him to a fantastic 24-59.
Le Huray is only in his first season, but has quickly mastered the art of time trials.
