LA MOYE Golf Club are the new Channel Islands club champions. With three points in the bag already from an away victory against Royal Jersey, La Moye remained unbeaten to top the four-club group table following a 6-6 draw against Royal Guernseyand an 8-4 defeat of L'Ancresse - both matches at the Royal Jersey.

It was La Moye's first overall victory in the competition since 1999 and the success delighted player-manager George Kean.

'It's a great result for the club and I'm delighted for everyone. We have no big stars in our team, we work hard at our games and to win has been a fantastic team effort.

'Royal Guernsey was a tough match on Saturday and we were half-a-point down after the morning foursomes. Andy Clarke and Grant McGregor were all square going down the 17th when Andy called a penalty when his ball moved while he was addressing it.

'It cost them the hole but they won the 18th with a birdie to halve the match. It was neck-and-neck throug-hout the singles and it came down to my match as we were half-a-point down.

'It didn't look good as I was two down with three to play but fortunately for me and the team I won two of the final three holes to finish all-square and we shared the match six-all.

La Moye finished with five points and Royal Jersey, champions for the past two years, with four.

Royal Jersey won both their matches over the weekend, 10-2 against L'Ancresse and 6.5-5.5 against Royal Guernsey.

L'Ancresse placed third with two points with Royal Guernsey bringing up the rear with one.

On a disappointing weekend for the Sarnian clubs the major consolation was the form of 16-yerar-old Emile Thompson who excelled on his debut for the Royal.

Having collected a half with Nigel Vaudin in their foursomes clash against La Moye, the youngster picked up two wins against the Royal Jersey.

Again partnered by Vaudin, he won 2 and 1 in the morning against Trevor Gray and Alex Guelpa and after lunch saw off Royal Jersey stalwart Richard Anderson 3 and 2.
