Hudson left to rue 16th hole setback

DI HUDSON birdied the last from 8ft, but left her charge just too late as one of the many Jersey day-trippers scooped the honours at the prestigious Credit Suisse Ladies' Open. Hosted by the Royal Guernsey Ladies' Section, the Stableford event attracted 137 players, including Les Mielles' Lynn Hopfinger, who scooped the top prize on countback from Hudson and Les Ormes' Stella Lambotte.
All three scored 39 points.
Hudson, who will be flying out to Shetland tomorrow with the rest of the Guernsey Island Games team, said she was delighted with her form ahead of an important week's team golf.
'It was quite pleasing to have a good round like that.
'It was just one of those days when everything went right,' she added.
Hudson, who claimed the scratch prize, was quick to put her hand up to admit she enjoyed the best of the conditions, as did Hopfinger.
'It wasn't coming down in stair rods when I played,' she said, a reference to the dreadful conditions others endured later in the day.
Hudson scored at least two points on every hole except the 16th where her one-pointer ultimately proved crucial.
Elaine Ward, the 2004 champion, finished in the upper reaches of the leader board, scoring 30 off her 16 handicap.
The high-handicap winner was local player Pat Fischer.
The following day, the Royal Guernsey's top women suffered a hefty 10-2 defeat on home soil in the annual Scarborough Cup clash against the Royal Jersey.
The home team's solitary wins came from Sue Wellfair and Liz Darling in the singles.
