NINE-YEAR-OLD Jeremy Nicolle achieved at the weekend what many golfers do not in a lifetime - a hole in one. The Guernsey Junior Golf Club member was playing a round with his father, island golfer Dave, at L'Ancresse when he stepped onto the seventh tee.

To say that the he was excited to see his shot go in is an understatement.

'It's a long hole and he has struggled before to get up onto the green,' said Dave.

'So I was surprised to see it go on the green and then hit the flag to go into the hole.

'His hands went up in the air and he started jumping up and down.

'I just stood there with my mouth open.'

The par-three seventh hole is 170 yards long.

The junior Nicolle used a three wood and the shot will go some way to help boast his handicap of 45.

Golf is the Vale Junior Schoolboy's favourite sport along with football.

He plays for Vale Rec and he has represented his school at the team sport.

The hole in one is undoubtedly one of his special moments in sport so far and he has a different recollection of the event than his dad does.

'I was excited. I thought it had rolled past the hole,' he said.

'It was a lucky shot really. Dad ran over to the tee box and hugged me.'

Age restricts Jeremy from taking part in the normal ritual of buying a round of drinks in the bar for his shot but he does receive a certificate, with a picture of the seventh hole to commemorate his achievement.

Royal Guernsey Golf Club golf manager Bobby Eggo believes that he now holds the record for the youngest hole in one at the club.

'It's the youngest that I've heard of,' he said.
