THE Nussbaumer name is synonymous with Cobo cricket. It was appropriate then that the 18-year-old son of the current club president, should play the decisive role and hit the winning runs as Total Cobo landed their first Barclays Division One title in six seasons last night.

Stuart Le Prevost's men were making hard work of chasing down NRG Pessimists' useful 15-over total of 99 for four when the youngster strode to the wicket with 29 still needed from four overs and wickets having tumbled in quick succession.

Together with Cobo stalwart Gary Rich the sixth-wicket eased the worries of their team-mates and the club faithful on the boundary, seeing the blues home with four balls to spare.

The turning point was the penultimate over which began with the champions-elect still requiring 16.

Second ball Nussbaumer smote an outrageous six over long-off into a neighbouring greenhouse and with Rich helping himself to a four in the same over, as well as a two, Cobo began the last needing just two.

With the impressive Pierre Moody bowled out, Mike Savage returned from the top end and his second ball was pulled by Nussbaumer through wide mid-wicket for four.

Afterwards skipper Le Prevost, who was one of Moody's four victims, admitted he thought his team were about to lose their 100% record.

'With three overs out I was a bit worried.

'Thankfully, Jamie hit that monster six and Stan's four in the same over eased the pressure.

No Cobo player was more happy than their island wicket-keeper.

'It's the last piece of the jigsaw,' said Justin Ferbrache, who has constantly been denied an evening league medal since joining from Salemites six years ago.

'I had thought I was a jinx,' he said.

Cobo aim to complete their 14-match programme with another win over relegation-threatened Griffins tomorrow.

Last night's triumph came 24 hours after their second team had won the GCA Cup by defeating St Pierre in the 40 overs per side final.

Kris Moherndl saw Cobo home by three wickets with a fine 30 down the order.
