Davies' win secures seniors spot
GEOFF DAVIES has secured a first appearance in the island seniors' team [over-55s] after his extra-hole victory over Kevin Lycett in the local seniors final at La Grande Mare.
The in-form Lycett was four up after six holes of the final, but at both that hole and the eighth he let Davies off the hook by taking four to get down from the back of the green.
On the back nine, Davies came into his own and with several pars actually led by one hole before Lycett claimed the 18th to take the match down the 19th.
But Davies' par at the first extra hole was enough to win the title and his place in the island squad.
Guernsey Golf Union president Roy Martel was full of praise for the host club.
'The course was in excellent condition. A tremendous test of golf.'
