Singles prove Sarnians' downfall

HOME advantage told in the deciding singles as Jersey won another junior inter-insular at Grouville. The match was locked at four points apiece after day one, but Guernsey could take only two-and-a-half from yesterday's singles to go home empty-handed.

Sean Mills and Stuart Hamon, the latter in his last year at this level, provided the only away wins, while Tom Le Huray finished all-square with Olivia Higgins, Jersey's history-making women's champion.

'We did very well,' said a far from despondent Guern-sey Junior Club president Chris Thompson.

Jersey had edged the opening foursomes by a point, only for the visitors to strike back in the fourballs.
